The world's first 7 star hotel, this project remains very much a landmark, built on land reclaimed from the Arabian Gulf. The majority of the hotel's luxurious suites were equipped with fully-dimmable, recessed cold cathode, along with major installations in the numerous restaurants, bars, lobbies and reception areas.
Designed by Maurice Brill Lighting Design, ACDC won the project after rigorous performance tests, which were managed by leading consultant W.S. Atkins and their interior designers.
The ACDC Tiny Covelite was used extensively throughout the hotel and the whole installation comprises over 12,000 metres of low voltage cold cathode. The 'plug and play' system offered several benefits, including excellent dimming performance, rapid installation time and high frequency operation resulting in a 50% energy saving. The installation was completed by electrical contractor B.K. Gulf using ACDC's U-fit package, resulting in a 70% reduction in on-site installation time.
