This 200 bedroom hotel in the centre of Manchester has been exquisitely finished in every detail. Although the building interiors have been massively redesigned, the building exterior remains much in keeping with the original architecture, which dates back to the early 1900's.
The Ransley Group were largely responsible for both the interior design and lighting scheme, developing a design that incorporated only the finest quality of products. Cold cathode was used throughout the hotel, in meeting rooms, restaurants, business centres and lift lobbies, both in recessed coffers and as back lit ceiling panels.
Most interesting were the two chandelier effects that were illuminated with cold cathode. The first used a cleverly recessed coffer and a huge, hollow oak tube, to create a series of elegant suspended luminaires in one of the many restaurants. The second uses a vast number of 15mm dia. frosted glass tubes, all suspended on metallic rings, which are in turn circumnavigated by a circular red cold cathode tube. The final effect is a stunning bespoke chandelier that bathes the surrounding area in warm ruby light.
ACDC Covelite was used extensively throughout the project, approximately 1500 metres in total. The whole package was manufactured and installed within 8 weeks, primarily due to the plug and play nature of the Covelite system.
